Mastercard and UnionPay tap as new options for MTR payment starting Sat

The MTR corporation will support two more electronic payment methods, Mastercard and UnionPay, at gates starting Saturday (Aug 24).

Commuters could tap their bank cards or other devices with the services at the gates to pay the train fares.

The railway riant noted that the concessionary fares do not apply to the new contactless payment service.

Each station, except for Airport Express, will be equipped with up to two new gates that accept various payment methods by the end of September.

MTR also intends to upgrade the Airport Express fare gates and expand contactless bank card and QR code payments via Airport Express trips by 2026 at the earliest.
