A 37-year-old Indonesian sex worker was found dead in a budget hotel room in Johor Bahru early Wednesday, having been stabbed multiple times and slashed across the throat in what police suspect was an attack by a foreign client.
According to China Press, the victim's body was discovered in a pool of blood with numerous stab wounds. Her neck bore a deep gash reaching the bone, and her chest had been stabbed at least nine times – some reports suggesting up to 14 wounds. Her fingers were also punctured, indicating a violent struggle with her attacker.
The victim, known locally as Lani, was described by nearby shopkeepers as friendly and personable. She reportedly used the hotel for meetings with clients after receiving bookings.
The incident occurred around 1am when Lani entered the room to meet a client. When she had not emerged by 4am, a female companion grew concerned. After repeated knocks went unanswered, the companion forced the door open and discovered Lani lying on the floor with severe chest wounds, already dead.
Police are hunting the foreign client believed responsible for the killing.
