Tesla recalls over 7,000 Model Y vehicles in Australia due to window safety software flaw

Tesla is recalling 7,301 Model Y vehicles in Australia due to a software fault that may cause driver-side windows to close with excessive force on obstructions, potentially increasing injury risks to occupants. The recall affects all 2025 variants sold in Australia, with the federal transport department warning the automatic protection system may not operate as intended.

The issue mirrors a similar 2022 recall of nearly 1.1 million Tesla vehicles in the United States involving Model 3 and Model S vehicles that exhibited incorrect obstruction detection responses. Tesla will contact affected owners and resolve the problem through an over-the-air software update, making physical dealership visits unnecessary for most customers.

This marks Tesla's largest recall in Australia this year, surpassing a March recall of 297 Model Y and Model 3 vehicles for power steering issues. The company continues to address software-related safety concerns through remote updates across its global fleet.
