Second seed Leylah Fernandez defeated Romanian Sorania Cirstea 6-4, 6-4 to set up an all-Canadian semifinal against teenager Victoria Mboko in the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open at the Victoria Park Tennis Centre.
Fernandez, 23, needed an hour and 44 minutes to knock out the seventh-seeded Cirstea as she stayed on course to winning the WTA 250 tournament she won in 2023.
Third-seeded Mboko, 19, advanced to the semi-finals after Russian Anna Kalinskaya retired with an injury while trailing 6-1, 3-1 in their Centre Court clash.
The other semi-final pits Spain's Cristina Bucsa against fifth-seeded Maya Joint of Australia.
Bucsa advanced by walkover against top seed Belinda Bencic while Joint outlasted Japanese qualifier Himeno Sakatsume 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
The semi-finals will be played Saturday, with the final scheduled on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong pair Eudice Chong and Cody Wong slumped to a 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 defeat at the hands of China's Jiang Xinyu and Wang Yafan in the doubles quarter-finals.
