Veteran actor's daughter in suicide tragedy

The eldest daughter of veteran actor Adam Cheng Siu-chau reportedly committed suicide and died at the age of 55 in her South California home due to depression and relationship issues, according to one of her friends.

Friends from Angelina Cheng On-yee's religious community lost contact with her and her mother, Lo Wai-yu, on Tuesday and Wednesday, and reported to the police.

Police then broke into her home in South California and found her hung herself in the house.

The friend through YouTube on Sunday said Angelina Cheng passed away on Thursday or Friday, and the St Bridget Chinese Catholic Church, where she attended adult catechism classes, held a memorial service for her on Saturday morning.

Her friends from the church also urged Lo to contact the church as soon as possible to make arrangements for her funeral.

Adam Cheng's current wife, Taiwanese actress Koon Jing-wah, said they have been "understanding and coping with the situation," and Adam Cheng has not yet recovered from grief.

"As far as we know, Angelina's mother is alive and residing in Vancouver. Some relatives were able to contact her through phone yesterday [on Sunday], and we have provided the contact details to the church," Koon said.

Due to legal matters in the United States, Koon also hoped Lo could deal with Angelina Cheng's properties in person as her rightful representative, including her house and car.

"As for the funeral service, we will try our best to assist if Lo allows us to do so."

Adam Cheng has four daughters including Hong Kong Canadian singer and actress Joyce Cheng Yan-yee.

It is understood Angelina Cheng was raised by Lo independently after she broke up with Adam Cheng, and had limited contact with her father after he funded her college education.

But they had met in recent years during Adam Cheng's performance in Las Vegas.

Sources said that Angelina Cheng had struggled with depression and unhappiness, influenced by negative perceptions of her father instilled in her since childhood, as well as experiencing complications arising from a complicated love triangle.

She recently participated in the St Bridget Chinese Catholic Church's adult catechism class.
