The annual Project WeCan “Young Innovators’ Bazaar”at Plaza Hollywood in Diamond Hill ended today, bringing together secondary school students from humble backgrounds across 58 schools to take on the role of young entrepreneurs.
Designed as a hands-on business simulation for local teens, the indoor bazaar hands participants a mini startup to run—from writing business plans and setting prices to sourcing suppliers and creating marketing pitches.
This year, about 1,400 students operate 58 booths showcasing nearly 250 original products; with no set theme, teams enjoy full creative freedom.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Friday, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Frederick Ma Si-hang, recounted running a Japanese restaurant with a friend years ago, where he targeted young diners with an innovative revolving sushi concept.
He noted that entrepreneurship brings rewards and freedom but is no easy feat, calling for capital, careful planning, market sense, quality goods, a strong team, and resilience against failure — not impulsive moves.
Committee Chairman of the Project WeCan Foundation Stephen Ng Tin-hoi, noted that the event offered training sessions this year, covering market analysis, financial planning and product design to build leadership capabilities among participants.
“I hope students would develop vision and cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset through this activity, embracing innovation, problem-solving, risk-taking and perseverance,” he said.
Wheelock Properties' vice chairman and managing director Ricky Wong Kwong-yiu also attended the event and presented awards to students.
The event also features a series of competitive categories, with 13 awards up for grabs. Contests include the 3-Minute Sales Challenge, Best On-site Presentation, Most Entertaining Award, Best Promotional Video, Best Booth Design and Best Team Spirit.
Participating schools will cast votes for accolades including My Favourite Booth and My Favourite Product.
