The Hong Kong Observatory issued an Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal at 11.25pm on Tuesday, indicating heavy rain exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong and is likely to continue.
The Observatory warned of possible flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas, advising those likely affected to take necessary precautions. People should stay away from watercourses due to potential flash floods and listen to radio or watch television for traffic conditions and further announcements.
An upper-air disturbance is expected to move away from Guangdong on Wednesday, with rain gradually easing. A northeast monsoon will bring cooler weather to the region. Drier conditions are expected in the following days as a monsoon replenishment affects the coast. A strong easterly airstream will influence the coast over the weekend and early next week.
Wednesday's forecast is mainly cloudy with occasional showers, sometimes heavy, and a few thunderstorms later. Temperatures will turn cooler, hovering around 20 degrees Celsius during the day, dropping to about 16 degrees at night. Moderate to fresh northerly to northeasterly winds are expected.
