An incident at Wan Chai MTR Station disrupted train services on Wednesday morning. Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan, stated that she has asked the MTR to provide the public with a preliminary investigation report within the day and submit a detailed report within a month.
Due to an object obstructing the track, train services near Wan Chai Station on the Island Line were temporarily suspended for about one hour.
It is reported that the incident is suspected to have been caused by an engineering vehicle damaging a signal box. There are also claims that items left behind from late-night construction work obstructed the track.
Chan said the government is highly concerned about the incident and is closely monitoring the situation. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has been requested to dispatch staff to the site to understand the incident.
As the incident disrupted train service, the authorities requested that MTR dispatch over 30 free shuttle buses for public transport, Chan added.
Additionally, the Transport Department also instructed franchised bus operators to strengthen their bus services.
