Two separate fires broke out in Tuen Mun early Friday morning (Jan 30), including a major blaze at an open-air car park in Po Tong Ha. The fire destroyed at least eight vehicles and sent thick black smoke into the sky. Police believe the incident may be linked to a suspected arson case at nearby Wo Tin Estate reported just over an hour earlier.

Police and firefighters received multiple reports at about 6.33am of vehicles on fire at the car park along Tong Hang Road, near Wo Tin Estate. The blaze was intense, and loud explosions were heard at the scene. Firefighters deployed a hose line and a breathing apparatus team to tackle the fire.
At least eight vehicles — including private cars, light goods vehicles, and a taxi — were damaged. About 10 residents evacuated on their own. The fire was brought under control at around 7.15am. No injuries were reported. Fire Services officers said the cause of the fire was suspicious.
A taxi driver who discovered the fire said he had parked there for some time and had no disputes with anyone. He added that he heard a loud noise before noticing flames breaking out on both sides of the car park.

Earlier, at around 5am, firefighters responded to a separate fire involving motorcycles outside Wo Choi House at Wo Tin Estate, a short distance from the Po Tong Ha site. One motorcycle, a trolley, and three bicycles were damaged. No injuries were reported.
Police are investigating both cases and believe the two incidents may be connected.
