The Transport Department announced on Wednesday that its Admiralty licensing office will implement an online same-day queue ticket system for direct issuance of Hong Kong full driving licenses starting next Monday (Jan 12), fully replacing the on-site ticket distribution.
The change comes in response to a surge in demand following the launch of the Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles scheme, which has led to applicants and agents queuing overnight outside the office for limited tickets.
To address issues related to the misuse of the arrangement and to ensure that other license application services are not affected, the Department will cancel on-site ticket distribution starting on Thursday (Jan 8).
Starting January 12, the online system will open at 7am every working day, providing 300 same-day queue tickets. Applicants or their agents can log into the designated website to obtain these tokens on a first-come, first-served basis.
Meanwhile, the existing online appointment service for the direct issuance of licenses will remain unchanged. Applicants who have already made appointments through the online system can continue to visit the licensing office at their scheduled time to process their applications.
