The Law Society of Hong Kong hosted its election forum for the Legislative Council legal functional constituency on Tuesday, providing members opportunity to question candidates Virginia Lee Wing-cheung and Nicholas Chan Hiu-fung about professional concerns.
Before proceedings began, attendees observed a moment of silence for victims of the Tai Po Wang Fuk Court fire. Law Society president Roden Tong moderated the forum, which was livestreamed on the organization's Facebook and YouTube channels for public access.
The society noted its ongoing response to the recent tragedy, having established an emergency free legal helpline (2840 1011) on November 27 and planning to set up service counters at three Tai Po transitional housing projects starting Thursday where volunteer lawyers will provide on-site consultations.
The Law Society emphasized members' votes concern both professional interests and Hong Kong's rule of law development, urging solicitors to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming Legislative Council election.
