The Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the State Council pledged its full support for the Hong Kong government following a major fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po yesterday afternoon that caused heavy casualties.

The office said after the accident, President Xi Jinping immediately instructed the head of the CPG Liaison Office in Hong Kong to convey his condolences for the fatalities and the firefighters who died in the line of duty, and his sympathy to the families and victims.
Xi requested the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office and the Liaison Office support the Hong Kong government to go all out to extinguish the blaze, rescue personnel, treat the injured, and handle follow-up and comfort work. He also asked relevant departments and localities to provide necessary assistance to minimize the losses.
The Hong Kong government and all sectors of society are currently fully engaged in firefighting, search and rescue, treating the injured and offering support.
The Hong Kong and Macao Work Office said it resolutely implements President Xi Jinping’s important directives, closely follows the rescue situation, maintains close communication with the Hong Kong government, and coordinates relevant departments and localities to provide necessary assistance.
