Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday night expressed his condolences to those who died in the major fire in Tai Po, as well as to the firefighter who died during his duty. He extended sympathies to the families of the deceased and to those affected, and called for every effort to fight the blaze and minimize casualties and losses.
He requested the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office and the Liaison Office to support the HK government in doing everything possible to put out the fire, carry out search and rescue, treat the injured, and handle follow-up and comfort work.
Xi also asked relevant departments and localities to provide necessary assistance to minimize casualties and losses.
The SAR government has already activated an emergency response mechanism, and a special emergency task force has been set up by the Hong Kong Liaison Office to maintain close communication with the government and fully support the rescue efforts.
