Domestic helper arrested after cat’s fatal fall in Cheung Sha Wan

A foreign domestic helper has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after a cat fell to its death from a high-rise residential building in Cheung Sha Wan on Thursday morning.

Police said they received a report at around 8.06am from a passerby who found a cat lying motionless on the ground near Heya Crystal on Castle Peak Road.

Officers arrived at the scene and confirmed that the approximately 1.5-year-old male Ragdoll cat was dead.

Following a preliminary investigation, a 26-year-old Filipino domestic worker was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty. She is currently being detained for questioning.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has retrieved the carcass for further examination.

The case remains under investigation.
