Police raided an underground gambling den disguised as a "game and web development company" in a Cheung Sha Wan industrial building on Tuesday night, arresting 72 people, authorities said.
The venue, which displayed a "web and game development company" sign as cover, hosted Texas Hold'em poker games promoted through Instagram, attracting both local and foreign participants. Entry fees ranged from HK$200 to HK$800, with players able to exchange about HK$200 for HK$16,000 worth of chips. Winners could exchange prizes for flight tickets to overseas competitions, with those carrying passports and reaching the top ten able to cash out immediately.
Those arrested included individuals from South Korea, India, Vietnam and Macau. The gambling sessions were held about twice a week, with some local participants receiving a "free next entry" incentive.
