MGM China Holdings Limited issued an urgent warning on Thursday about a fraudulent scheme involving a deepfake video that falsely depicts its Chairperson and Executive Director, Pansy Ho, promoting a fake investment plan with promises of massive returns.
The company has clarified that the AI-generated video is entirely deceptive and has no connection to either MGM China or Ho, emphasizing that neither the company nor its executive has ever endorsed or been involved in the scheme.
The scam, which surfaced recently, has raised concerns due to its sophisticated use of artificial intelligence to mimic Ho’s likeness, misleading viewers into believing the investment opportunity is legitimate.
MGM China has strongly condemned the impersonation and misrepresentation, vowing to pursue legal action against those responsible to safeguard its reputation and interests.
The company stressed that all its official communications and business updates are shared solely through authorized channels.
To protect the public from falling victim to the fraud, MGM China urged individuals and media outlets to verify information through official sources and avoid sharing or acting on the deceptive content, which could lead to significant financial and legal risks.
The company also called for an immediate halt to the spread of the fake video and its misleading claims, reinforcing its commitment to transparent and lawful operations.
