The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has handled over 90 million passenger trips and 18.6 million vehicles since it began operations in October 2018, according to the bridge's border inspection station on Tuesday.
Statistics show that the total passenger volume of the HZMB reached 16.3 million in 2023 and increased to 27 million the following year.
Approximately 21.2 million passenger trips have been recorded since the beginning of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 19 percent. The annual passenger volume is projected to surpass 30 million for the first time by the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, more than 9.01 million mainland visitors have entered Hong Kong or Macao through the Zhuhai Port of the HZMB so far this year, following the relaxation of cross-border travel policies.
In 2019, about 4.5 million Hong Kong and Macao residents passed through the HZMB, which reduced travel time between Hong Kong and Macao from three hours to 30 minutes.
This figure increased significantly to 16.2 million in 2024 and has already exceeded 12.7 million so far this year. It is expected to surpass 18 million by the end of the year.
In addition, the port has handled 7.17 million vehicles with Hong Kong and Macau license plates under the Northbound Travel for Hong Kong and Macau Vehicles Scheme.
The scheme allows eligible residents of Hong Kong and Macau to travel to mainland China in their private cars via the HZMB.
