The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) cleaned Tai Chuen Ping Street in Kwai Chung on Wednesday, where the sixth patient of Chikungunya fever resides.
The area is densely packed with industrial buildings, some of which have garbage piled up outside their underground parking lots. However, some residents said the overall hygiene in the area is good, with little visible waste or stagnant water.
They pointed out that identifying the source of litter is difficult due to the high foot traffic in industrial buildings.
Several residents believe that imported cases are inevitable given frequent cross-border travel, while emphasizing taking adequate mosquito prevention measures when heading north.
Meanwhile, a restaurant worker mentioned that stagnant water on the streets is not a serious issue and that they are not worried about infection since the door prevents most mosquitoes from entering.
Working professionals also said they have no intention of taking special anti-mosquito measures, as they have barely encountered mosquito problems after living in the area for decades.
