Grace Lau strikes gold in karate at World Games

Hong Kong karate superstar Grace Lau Mo-sheung made history at the World Games on Friday, capturing the city's first gold medal of the Chengdu 2025 competition with a dominant performance in the women's individual kata event.

The world's top-ranked kata athlete delivered a masterclass under pressure, scoring 45.3 points to defeat Japan's Ono Maho (43.6) in the final. 

Lau leveraged the energy of roaring Chinese spectators who turned the Chengdu arena into a quasi-home venue for the Hong Kong athlete.
