Man rescued from Central waters pronounced dead

A man was pronounced dead after being rescued from the waters near Central on Friday morning in a suspected drowning incident.

Shortly before 10am today, a garbage collection vessel spotted the man in the water and immediately retrieved him before alerting authorities. 

A fireboat arrived at the scene, and the man was transferred using the garbage vessel’s front scoop onto the rescue boat.

He was then taken to Central Government Pier and rushed by ambulance to Ruttonjee Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead despite emergency treatment.

Police are currently working to identify the victim and determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
