A tragedy has resulted in the loss of four pets' lives due to a fire caused by an overheated washing machine in an apartment located in Prince Edward.
Firefighters responded to the scene at Lai Chi Kok Road around 11.36am and put out the blaze within 20 minutes.
Two poodles were rescued from the fire; however, one was pronounced dead on-site, while the other was in critical condition.
Staff from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) rushed the injured poodle to a veterinary clinic for emergency treatment, and managed the remains of the deceased poodle.
In addition, three parrots sustained serious injuries and were confirmed dead. Fortunately, two hamsters in the apartment were unharmed during the incident.
There was no need for evacuation, and no additional injuries were reported. Sources indicated that the residents were at work when the fire broke out.
