The Immigration Department (ImmD) announced on Monday afternoon that they have arrested five mainland workers who came to Hong Kong under the guise of tourism to provide cheap repair services at the Fu Tip Estate.

The second phase of Fu Tip Estate in Tai Po had gradually started to be occupied by tenants starting in March of this year, but the investigations conducted by the Immigration Department officers suspected that illegal workers were engaged in renovation works at Fu Tip Estate.
At about 1 pm today, ImmD officers went to Fu Tip Estate, located in Tai Po, to conduct an arrest operation.
Five illegal mainland workers, ranging in age from 34 to 47 years old, were arrested at the scene.
It is understood that they entered Hong Kong as tourists and received a daily salary of HK$200 to HK$350.
The 51-year-old employer suspected of hiring illegal workers was also arrested.
During the operation, the Immigration Department seized measuring tapes, painting tools, and other renovation tools as evidence.
The ImmD spokesman stated that they were alerted to the incident after discovering various repair companies offering cheap repair and renovation services on social media.
The company involved in the crime was found to have provided relatively cheap services. It stated that for a unit of 1 to 2 people, it is reported that one-stop decoration services can be provided for HK$20,000 to HK$30,000, while for residential units with 4 to 5 people, whole house decoration services can be provided for approximately HK$120,000.
This aroused suspicion from the department as to whether it involved hiring illegal workers to reduce costs which led them to mount an operation and arrest the six.
