The Legislators resolutely oppose and severely condemn the US interference and emphasize they will stand together with Hong Kong society and citizens, firmly support the government in fully implementing national security laws, jointly safeguard national interests, and ensure the one country, two systems will remain steady for a long time.
All 26 clansmen associations in Hong Kong also issued a joint statement and described the US lawmakers' proposal to sanction 49 personnel in Hong Kong as aimed at destabilizing the city and was evidence of the encroachment of the national security law.
Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macau Studies consultant Lau Siu-kai said the condemnation is a result of US lawmakers spreading their hands out and affecting the sovereignty of Hong Kong, and it is something no country would withstand.
He added that the central government has the ability to imply Article 55 of the national security law to exercise jurisdiction over a case concerning offenses endangering national security.
The vice president of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macau Studies, Tam Yiu-chung, added that there is a chance the judicial officers might feel stressed and cannot handle the cases due to the proposed sanctions. For the sake of national security, there is no option but to hand the cases to the mainland.
