[Video] Deadly fire ravages public housing flat, kills four including two-year-old

Four people have died in a deadly blaze that broke out in the early hours at a public housing flat in Sau Mau Ping, including a two-year-old girl.

The fire broke out at about 3.00am at a fifth-floor flat in Tat Hei House of Po Tat Estate in Kwun Tong District, with one found dead at the scene and another three confirmed dead in hospital.

The four were all female, aged between 2 to 40 years.

Two others were found injured and rushed to hospital. One of them is in critical condition and the other stable.

The two were said to be the father and the grandfather of the two-year-old girl.

Some 150 residents were evacuated from the building, with some saying the hallways were filled with black smoke.

According to reports, the father was not at home when the fire broke out. He was made known of the situation after the grandfather escaped from the deadly blaze.

The father hurried back home and attempted to rush into the burning flat trying to save his family but to no avail.

Duty assistant divisional officer of the Fire Department Wong Kwok-chun said the fire was violent and the scene was at very high temperatures when firefighters arrived.

Nine fire engines, seven ambulances, and 93 personnel were deployed responding to the fire.

Firefighters were still investigating the cause of the blaze.
