A man died and a woman dangerously climbed onto a clothing rack, shouting for help when a fire broke out in Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin.
The fire started in a flat in Wing Shui House of the public housing estate at 4.01pm today.
The fire then spreaded to the opposite flat where a female resident was trapped.
She climbed onto a clothing rack hanging outdoors, while firemen shot water at her to lower the heat. Firemen later broke in and rescued the woman to safety.
The fire was upgraded to No. 3 alarm at 4.20pm, contained at 4.54pm and largely put out at 5.22pm.Two jets and two breathing apparatus teams were mobilized to fight the blaze.
Over 200 residents were evacuated. Four of them were injured and sent to the Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment. A poodle died after it was found inside a flat on the same floor where the fire burnt.
