HKJC pledges $450m to support National Games in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has pledged a HK$450 million sponsorship to aid Hong Kong's participation in the upcoming 15th National Games, 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and 9th National Special Olympic Games (NGD & NSOG).

The funding solidifies the Club’s role as the sole Partner Sponsor for the Hong Kong Competition Region, marking its highest-tier support for the events.  

The sponsorship agreement was formalized today at the Central Government Offices during a ceremony witnessed by Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee.

Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, and HKJC CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, signed the partnership agreement, which aims to enhance Hong Kong's preparations for the Games.

A historic co-hosting opportunity  

This year marks the inaugural occasion for Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao to jointly host the National Games, which is China’s premier multi-sport event occurring every four years. The collaboration is designed to foster sportsmanship, regional cohesion, and demonstrate Hong Kong’s capability in managing major international events.

HKJC Chairman Michael Lee highlighted the club’s enduring commitment to sports development in China, referencing its previous support for the Beijing Olympics, Guangzhou Asian Games, and Hangzhou Asian Games. He noted that the National Games would further integrate the Greater Bay Area and stimulate innovation through sports.

Supporting athletes and community engagement  

The sponsorship will improve event preparations, including volunteer programs, community promotions, and initiatives aimed at helping underprivileged groups and students experience the Games. The HKJC will also sponsor the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme, which offers cash rewards to Hong Kong medalists at the National Games and the NGD.

Approximately 100 volunteers from the HKJC’s CARE@hkjc team will participate as group volunteers, receiving 13 hours of training to assist at the events.

Hong Kong’s role in the games  

The 15th National Games are scheduled from November 9–21, with Hong Kong hosting eight competitions, including basketball, cycling, fencing, and rugby sevens, as well as a mass-participation bowling event.

The NGD & NSOG, set for December 8–15, will include four events in Hong Kong: boccia, wheelchair fencing, table tennis, and a para dance sports event.

Law expressed gratitude towards the HKJC for its support and reiterated Hong Kong’s commitment to co-hosting a “simple, safe, and wonderful” Games with Guangdong and Macao.
