Heavy showers and thunderstorms expected to batter HK starting Wed: Observatory

The Observatory said there would be heavy showers and squally thunderstorms over the city later on Wednesday (May 28) and Thursday (May 29), while the rainy weather could last for at least a week.

The weather watchdog said Sunday that a trough of low pressure will move southwards and edge closer to the coast of southern China gradually. 

The trough of low pressure will linger over the vicinity of the northern part of the South China Sea in the latter part of this week. 

According to the 9-day weather forecast, showers with squally thunderstorms will hit the city starting Wednesday, and the showers will be heavy at times on Thursday.

The Observatory noted that a few showers will continue for the rest of the week and last until next Tuesday (Jun 3).
