Two-time TVB Best Actress Nancy Wu Ting-yan announced that she is leaving the broadcaster after more than two decades.
On Instagram on Wednesday (Feb 4), Wu wrote: “2026, a new beginning. I have decided to step out of my comfort zone and explore the world. Thank you to TVB and Shaw Brothers for your support over the years. Wishing everyone good health and happiness.”
The 44-year-old married surgeon Dr. Akin Chan Kin-wa last October in a romantic ceremony in Queenstown, New Zealand. Despite her marriage, Wu has continued to work while shifting her focus toward music.
Wu began her career in 1999, reaching the top four in TVB’s International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship. She later won the third CoverGirl competition and joined the 18th Artist Training Class. She gained recognition for her roles in Triumph in the Skies (2003) and Twin of Brothers (2004).
She reached a career peak in 2015, winning her first TVB Best Actress award for her role as Jiang Rong in Ghost of Relativity. Wu retained the title in 2016 for her performance in A Fist Within Four Walls, forming one of the most popular on-screen couples of the year with co-star Ruco Chan Chin-pang.
After 2020, Wu switched to a project-based contract while continuing to appear in dramas such as Big White Duel II and Narcotics Heroes. She earned further Best Actress nominations, though she did not reach the same career heights as before.
Wu has long harbored a passion for singing. In 2019, she held her first solo concert at Genting Highlands’ Star Theatre in Malaysia, followed by a successful show in Guangzhou last year. She also performed as a guest at concerts by Sammi Cheng and Alex Fong, signaling her determination to pursue a music career.
Wu’s departure marks the end of a more than 20-year journey with the broadcaster and the start of new personal and professional endeavors.
