Innovations the key to winning climate fight

Innovative technology is key to easing climate change, found a summit organized by Eureka Nova, an open innovation platform under New World Development (0017).

"The 1.5C Summit - The Defining Decade for Impact with Tech" was attended by 43 industry experts, entrepreneurs, policymakers, business leaders and non-government organization representatives and featured panel discussions, keynote speeches, 36 booths of startup innovations in climate tech, which attracted over 1000 online and offline registrations.

The one-day hybrid summit is one of the events of Hong Kong's annual StartmeupHK Festival organized by Invest Hong Kong.

With a focus on Hong Kong's target to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050, the summit talked about the strategies to significantly reduce carbon emissions within 10 years, including net-zero innovation, energy-saving technologies in green buildings, greener transport solutions and reimagining waste reduction.

Addressing the event, the Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology Diane Wong Shuk-han said the 2050 goal is challenging and green technologies and green finance are critical to the target.

Ben Wong Chun-nam, general manager of technology innovation at New World, said the developer will continue to speed up innovation, startup incubation and commercialization through Eureka Nova.
