Alibaba releases early edition of newest AI model

Alibaba (9988) has released its new artificial intelligence reasoning model, dubbed Thinking (QwQ), which is designed around mathematical comprehension, programming and AI agents.

Powered by QwQ-Max-Preview and developed based on Qwen2.5-Max, the model released on Tuesday is currently in its preview phase, with the team behind it committed to ongoing performance optimization.

The development team Qwen announced that the official version of the model will be released soon, along with plans to open source both QwQ-Max and Qwen2.5-Max under the Apache 2.0 license.

According to mainland media reports, Thinking QwQ is similar to reasoning models such as DeepSeek R1 and Kimi, supporting both deep reasoning and online searches while showcasing a complete chain of thought.
