Founded in 1992, Christian Alliance P.C. Lau Memorial International School (CAPCL) marks its 30th anniversary this year and has launched a series of educational activities in celebration of the momentous occasion.
“The theme of this landmark anniversary follows the journey of a seed falling on good soil, growing robustly and producing a bumper crop, multiplying 30, 60, or even 100 times,” says Dr Cora Hui, Head of School, as she underscores her conviction that a favorable learning environment both at school and at home helps children grow and reap huge rewards.
Dr Hui emphasizes that nurturing students as servant leaders is at the core of CAPCL’s education philosophy. “When they are in good soil, they will thrive,” she explains. “We want them to see what they can do to multiply their talents and bless other people.”
Stimulating creativity
The school has planned a variety of celebration activities every month throughout the academic year to reinforce the cohesion of the CAPCL community on this special occasion. A family outing held last month received overwhelming support from parents as they took the opportunity to bond with their children and establish an even closer rapport with teachers.
Elements of interactive learning are infused in the festivities. Learners would contribute story ideas for a comic book, demonstrating how to convey love, faith and purity in speech and behaviour. “It’s important to have the children involved in the creative process and express who they want to be,” says Dr Hui.
Mural painting on campus is another dynamic element of the collective effort to commemorate CAPCL’s illustrious education journey in the last 30 years, based on qualities such as kindness, faithfulness, and self-control. “The mural would remind the children that these are the good qualities they should aim for and build on in our community.”
A highlight in the celebration calendar is the forthcoming Chinese New Year carnival to which the wider CAPCL community, including alumni, will be invited. It will be a wonderful occasion to renew the camaraderie amidst the fun at game stalls and performances running throughout the day.
Landmark achievement
Looking back at the history of CAPCL, Dr Hui remarks that extending a warm welcome to students after the school’s major two-and-a-half-year renovation was her happiest moment. “It was a mammoth project that required an inordinate amount of thought, energy and perseverance, with close attention to minute details,” she says. “But it was all worth the effort as children now have a comfortable campus to thrive in.”
“We have really turned every brick around to transform the campus with a focus on play-based education facilities, as we want children to enjoy school life and be active in learning,” she adds. “We have, for example, the Treehouse Library for them to explore and expand their knowledge; and the Makerspace to experiment and express their creative ideas.”
Dr Hui expresses her gratification at the positive response to the new campus as witnessed by the encouraging growth in enrollment. She is also highly appreciative of the continued steadfast support of parents and teachers when the school reopened at a challenging time amid the pandemic in 2020.
Looking to the future, Dr Hui stresses that CAPCL will not be resting on its laurels. “We will be at the forefront in addressing the changing needs of society,” she pledges. “We are dedicated to developing leaders who serve the community through the STREAM model, which consists of STEM, research and aesthetics components, and in a bilingual mode of English and Mandarin Chinese with traditional script which parents highly approve of.”
