Three workers died and three were injured in a suffocation accident at a biopharmaceutical company in Jiangxi province after its central oxygen supply system failed on New Year's Eve.
The incident occurred around 10.20pm on December 31 at Jiangxi LongLife Bio-Pharmaceutical in Jinxian county, Nanchang.
A preliminary investigation found the accident happened after an air compressor malfunctioned and shut down, causing pressure loss in the system. This led to insufficient oxygen supply to full-face self-contained breathing apparatus worn by workers in sealed centrifuge and drying rooms.
