A 62-year-old mainland male crew member died after falling about 12 metres into a crevice on a cargo ship in Tuen Mun early on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 1.18am on a cargo vessel about 200 metres off 97 Castle Peak Road-Ho Yeung Street. The man, surnamed Lee, was working on container lifting operations when he fell into a crevice in the ship's cabin and became trapped.
Rescuers arrived and freed him after nearly two hours. He had sustained injuries to his head, back, shoulders and legs, and was unconscious. He was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital with CPR performed en route, but was pronounced dead at 3.37am.
Police preliminary investigations suggest he fell from a container about 12 metres high. The cause of death is pending a post-mortem examination.
