Fried chicken stall owner in Jingdezhen becomes sensation, tripling hotel prices during National Day holiday

A fried chicken stall owner in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, has gained immense popularity during China’s National Day Golden Week due to his humorous speech and sincere attitude, turning the city into a tourist hotspot and tripling nearby hotel prices.

The stall owner, surnamed Li, posted a video on Tuesday (Sep 30) inviting tourists to visit Jingdezhen during the National Day holiday. 

“You travel a thousand miles for me, and I wait with delicious food for you,” he noted.

Long lines formed in front of his stall on the next day, with some tourists arriving as early as 9am.

The room rates of nearby hotels and guesthouses have surged two to three times. Hotel staff said that Li has become extremely popular, causing locals to wait hours for a meal, and even more visitors are expected during the holiday.

Li joined Douyin on September 23 and quickly gained over 300,000 followers, with a single post reaching 706,000 likes.

His fame stems from both the tasty, affordable chicken chops and his humorous customer interactions, leading netizens to call him ‘stand-up comedy for chicken chops’, noting that the six yuan chop provides 60 yuan’s worth of emotional value.
