Zhuhai airport's annual passenger throughput exceeded 13 million for the first time this year, setting a record since its opening 30 years ago.
The airport is expected to handle 13.23 million passengers and about 40,000 tonnes of cargo this year, representing year-on-year increases of two percent and 15 percent respectively.
This year, the airport focused on improving connectivity to China's three major economic hubs – the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta and the Chengdu-Chongqing area – increasing flight frequencies to core cities. It now serves 78 domestic destinations, covering 94 percent of provincial capitals, autonomous region capitals, municipalities and major planned cities. High-frequency routes with at least five weekly flights have increased to 19.
Since opening in 1995, Zhuhai airport has developed from a regional facility into a key aviation hub in the Greater Bay Area. Leveraging its location advantages from major infrastructure like the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Huangmao Sea Crossing, it continues to optimize its route network.
