In a significant step towards advancing eye care education, EssilorLuxottica, a global leader in vision solutions, has partnered with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) to equip the school’s optometry program with a suite of cutting-edge instruments.
The donated equipment includes four of the industry’s most advanced instruments, all developed and manufactured by EssilorLuxottica. These include a comprehensive eye health screening device, a state-of-the-art refractometer, a fully automated objective refraction tool, and a next-generation progressive lens fitting instrument.
“We have always believed in the importance of education and cultivating the next generation of optometric professionals,” said Mr. Pan Lu, General Manager of HK&TW Professional Solutions at EssilorLuxottica. “By providing these advanced instruments, we hope to empower PolyU’s students with hands-on experience using the latest technologies, equipping them with the skills to deliver the highest standards of vision care.”
Professor Kee Chea-su, Head of the School of Optometry at PolyU, expressed deep gratitude for EssilorLuxottica’s longstanding support. “This donation not only enhances our teaching resources but also aligns with our mission to provide outstanding optometric education and training. Our students will greatly benefit from the opportunity to work with these cutting-edge technologies.”
He added: “Our goal is to attract more students who are passionate about optometry. We believe that this new equipment will showcase our commitment to staying at the forefront of the evolving demands within the optometry field.”
Building on a decade of collaboration, the partnership between EssilorLuxottica and PolyU is expected to extend beyond the equipment donation and deepen in the years to come. Pan shared the company’s desire to further expand their partnership, including initiatives such as sponsoring scholarships, offering internships at their R&D facilities, and exploring joint product development or research projects.
“We hope to deepen our collaboration with PolyU on their new post-graduate programs,” said Pan. “This will allow us to work hand in hand to advance the optometry field and contribute to the development of future industry professionals.”

As the industry evolves, the optometry students at PolyU are now better equipped to meet the challenges and deliver the highest standard of vision health services.
