Hong Kong has received over 340,000 applications under various talent admission schemes over the past 19 months, with about 210,000 of them approved, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said on Saturday.
Of the approved applicants, over 140,000 talents have already arrived in the city, he added.
Speaking at a youth development forum this morning, the city’s leader said the SAR government has been proactively attracting talent from the mainland and overseas through different policy measures since late 2022.
Meanwhile, he said the government attaches great importance to youth development, recognizing young people as the pillar of society's future.
He said the goal is to cultivate a new generation of youth with a global perspective and aspirations for both the country and Hong Kong.
With the development of the Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative, Hong Kong will connect traditional and emerging markets from the mainland and around the world, he said, and he believes that the development potential of every young person coming to Hong Kong is limitless.
