Onlookers team up to rescue trapped driver from overturned dump truck

A truck overturned on its side at Hung Shui Kiu on Saturday afternoon, with the driver having to be rescued by pedestrians.

Shortly before 2 pm today, a dump truck heading for Yuen Long via the Castle Peak Road - Hung Shui Kiu section suddenly flipped onto its side when it got near the Hung Shui Kiu Light Rail Stop.

A large number of items fell off the truck, and the driver was trapped in the vehicle.

Onlookers went forward to help the truck driver, with one of the people using a hard object to strike the window in hope of getting him out of the truck.

After around three minutes, they were able to make a hole and help rescue the driver.

The Transport Department announced that, due to a traffic accident, the entire Castle Peak Highway-Hung Shui Kiu section (toward Yuen Long) near the Hung Shui Kiu Light Rail Station was temporarily closed.

Motorists are advised to consider using other roads as traffic at this location is currently congested.
