The Council of the University of Hong Kong has officially appointed Lau Chak-sing, Chair Professor of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, as the Dean of Medicine for the school’s LKS Faculty of Medicine.

Lau has served as the interim dean of medicine since August last year after predecessor Gabriel Matthew Leung stepped down from the position in July.
Lau will assume office starting December 1 and his term will last for five years.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lau expressed his gratitude to the university for its trust and said he was very honored and thrilled to be appointed.
He also promised to do his best to progress with colleagues and students, as well as keeping in close liaison with alumni, partners, and stakeholders.
Lau also said he will go to great lengths to lead the Faculty of Medicine in providing excellent teaching and learning, attracting exceptional teaching and research professionals and students, promoting research as well as global cooperation and exchanges.
