A postman was charged by the ICAC on Wednesday for allegedly using false permits for free parking at a government car park for about half a year.
The defendant Man Chun-him, 38, faces two counts of using false instruments and one count of using a copy of a false instrument.
Man was released on bail and will appear at Shatin Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow (Thu).
At the time in question, Man was working in the Tai Po Government Offices Building, the car park of which was managed by Guardian Property Management Ltd.
Between April and October last year, Man allegedly used two temporary parking permits purportedly issued by Hongkong Post with the intention of inducing four security guards to accept them as genuine.
The case arose from a corruption complaint where enquiries revealed that Man also allegedly used a copy of a temporary parking permit while attending interviews with the ICAC, which hindered and prolonged the watchdog’s investigation.
The ICAC later revealed that Hongkong Post had not issued the relevant parking permits to Man.
The ICAC noted that providing false information to ICAC officers is a serious offense and such breaches will be followed up in a serious manner.
