The opening will see phase one of the line, covering the former Ma On Shan Line and stops at Diamond Hill and Kai Tak, extend to Hung Hom, via new stations at Sung Wong Toi and To Kwa Wan, as well as Ho Man Tin. At Hung Hom, the route will join the West Rail to Tuen Mun.
The Tuen Ma Line - the city’s longest rail corridor of about 56km, will now run through 27 stations.
Secretary for Transport, Chan Fan, said the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department this morning had notified the MTR Corporation that the relevant testings on the Tai Wai-Hung Hom section of the link had been completed, of which the Tuen Ma Line is now fit for operation.
Chan added that the services on Tuen Ma Line will run at 3-minute intervals during rush hours, hoping to relieve pressure on the existing East Rail Line service. There will also be fare concessions offered to passengers.
The Tuen Ma Line had been earmarked for completion in mid-2019 after an earlier target of December 2018 was pushed back due to construction problems. However, it faced further delays after a construction scandal at Hung Hom Station had been exposed.
