The Hong Kong Jockey Club said in an announcement that the club suspended the operation of the Derby Bar and Derby Restaurant, the fine dining restaurant, while the food plaza and the Six Furlong have been closed for business since February 25.
The decision was taken after the brother of a member, a 60-year-old woman, later diagnosed as infected with the new coronavirus, had made many visits to the clubhouse. The man has been hospitalized.
The club says it is aware of the announcement made by the Centre for Health Protection late last night that a member has been confirmed of being infected with the coronavirus.
The club member attended his daughter’s wedding banquet on February 22 where his sister, a confirmed case earlier was also present. He was sent to the quarantine center as a close contact, the club said, adding that it "takes this matter seriously and has immediately reviewed the visit record of the member.''
"Based on our information and confirmation with the member, he visited the Food Plaza of the Happy Valley Clubhouse on February 23, the day after the wedding banquet. In addition, for caution’s sake, the club has further identified other visits of the member before February 22, and confirmed that he visited Six Furlong on February 18 and 21, the Food Plaza on February 15 and 20, and the Derby Bar on February 14.
The club said it is monitoring the health status of the relevant employees and arranged medical checks. To protect club employees and members, the entire Happy Valley Clubhouse was closed.
