The company was also reported to evaluate poor performers more rigorously.
A Microsoft spokesman was quoted as confirming the layoffs, but declined to say how many people would be laid off.
The Microsoft spokesperson added that the company is focused on performing talent and is committed to helping its employees learn and grow. When employees are not performing well, appropriate measures will be taken.
According to the report, Mircosoft may have already filled these positions, so there is no significant change to its overall workforce.
Microsoft now has 228,000 employees, after having cut about 10,000 employees in 2023 and about 4,000 last year.
