Hong Kong’s Olympic bronze medalist Grace Lau Mo-sheung claimed gold at the Karate1 Premier League in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday.
Lau earned higher scores from four of the seven international judges when compared to Japan’s Hikaru Ono in the final, securing victory in total points.
The win marks her second consecutive triumph over Ono this season, bringing Lau’s medal tally to two golds and one silver from three finals this season.
The rivals have previously split their season matchups, with Ono winning January’s Paris event and Lau triumphing at March’s Hangzhou tournament.
Meanwhile, the final K1 tournament of the season will take place in late May in Morocco, where a strong performance could secure Lau her first-ever season-ending world No. 1 title.
In addition, Lau was awarded the Hong Kong Sports Stars Award last Thursday. She is also scheduled to attend the Asian Karatedo Championships in the Republic of Uzbekistan from May 23 to 25, aiming to achieve a historic three-peat.
