Coleman Wong Chak-lam made history when he beat Italian Luca Giacomini 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 in the final of the ITF Tunisia F29 event, becoming the first Hong Kong tennis player to win an international professional tournament.
"Feeling unreal and emotional," Wong said on Instagram, where he posted photos of the match and the trophy ceremony in Monastir.
Wong delivered at the second time of asking, having lost to Lebanon's Hady Habib 6-3, 6-3 on the same court in the final of the ITF Tunisia F28 event the previous week.
The 19-year-old fired 19 aces against Giacomini and decisively won the third set after the Italian had edged the second 7-5 to force the decider.
Wong defeated Brazilian Gilbert Soares Klier Junior 6-3, 7-5 to reach the final.
It was the second time the Diocesan Boys' School graduate has appeared in a final since turning professional in September last year following a stellar career in the juniors.
The result vaulted Wong to a career-high ATP singles ranking of 625.
On his way to the final, the Hong Kong star also beat Briton Ewen Lumsden, Russian Mikhail Gorokhov and Frenchman Nicolas Tepmahc.
Wong rose to fame as a world-class junior player, winning junior Grand Slam doubles titles at the US Open in 2021 and the Australian Open in 2022.
