Luminous ovoids to light up Tamar a while longer

Hongkongers can enjoy taking selfies with hundreds of colorful luminous ovoids at the lawn area in Tamar Park without having to pre-register from tomorrow night as the government announced it was extending the free exhibition to June 8.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced yesterday that it would extend multiple exhibitions under the Art@Harbour project, including the large-scale outdoor teamLab: Continuous that opened in late March.

The exhibition, which features 200 colorful ovoids at Tamar Park and the Central and Western District Promenade, was originally planned to run through June 2.

"The pre-booking admission arrangement originally required for part of the exhibition at the lawn area in teamLab: Continuous will be scrapped from May 8 and visitors can visit the exhibition directly from the time it opens at 6.30pm to the 11pm closing time without prior registration," the department said.

Art Promotion Office head, Wu Pui-shan, said that the exhibition, along with another display in the park, Science in Art, has attracted over 900,000 visitors since opening, achieving the target ahead of schedule.

"The exhibition's results exceeded expectations, therefore, the government hopes to extend it to allow more people to visit," Wu said.

However, visitors may still need to wait in line to enter the exhibition venue amid crowd control measures to ensure safety.

The government has spent HK$50 million on the exhibition, with the free admission benefiting citizens and attracting more visitors, she said.

"Many things cannot be measured by money and the most important thing is that visitors to the exhibition have a good experience," Wu said.

The Science in Art exhibit will also be extended until June 8 with free entry.
