Choosing a school is not about finding the “best” school for every child; it is about finding the right fit for your family. At International College Hong Kong Hong Lok Yuen (ICHK HLY), the aim is to nurture lifelong learners who are curious, confident and ready to apply what they know in new situations.

Located in the natural surroundings of Tai Po, ICHK HLY is an international kindergarten and primary school for children aged 2 years 8 months to 11 years. Authorised to teach the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) since 2010, the school combines explicit teaching with structured inquiry. Experienced teachers deliver a balanced curriculum that develops literacy and numeracy alongside communication, problem-solving and a growth mindset.

Outdoor learning is a distinctive part of school life. With access to the nature of the New Territories, students connect with nature through authentic learning experiences. The school’s vision is to lead in outdoor education, wellbeing and innovation. Its commitment to student wellbeing and a holistic approach to learning won the AIA Healthiest Schools Competition award in the primary school category. In 2023, ICHK HLY also received Smart Schools Status, recognising staff training in supporting bilingual and multilingual learners.

A small, close-knit community helps students feel known and supported. With around 370 students, the school aims to offer the opportunities of a larger school while ensuring that children feel they belong. Teachers monitor each child’s academic, social, emotional, physical and creative development, sharing insights with families and tailoring support or challenges to individual needs. The school reports that its students exceed international benchmarks in Mathematics and Reading, while emphasising that academic achievement is one part of a well-rounded education.

The journey can continue beyond primary school: kindergarten graduates have an automatic place in ICHK Primary, while ICHK Secondary offers a close partnership and priority places for ICHKHLY students.

Families with children born between 2020 and 2024 are warmly invited to enquire about suitable year levels, availability and the application process.
