HK’s high-speed rail cross-border trips top 20 million this year

Cross-border passenger trips on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail have surpassed 20 million this year, reaching 20.054 million as of August 10, 11 days earlier than last year.

Mainland-to-Hong Kong trips accounted for 10.327 million, while Hong Kong-to-mainland trips reached 9.727 million.

Weekend traffic averaged 105,000 passengers daily, 25 percent higher than weekdays. The single-day record of 149,000 was set on April 4.

During the summer holidays from July 1 to August 10, the rail carried 3.817 million passengers, averaging 93,000 per day. On August 8, driven by cross-border concert and event attendance, daily traffic hit 136,000, a summer peak.
