Off-duty firefighter rescues elderly man from sea in Kwun Tong

An off-duty firefighter rescued an elderly man from the sea off Wai Yip Street in Kwun Tong late on Wednesday night, with both taken to hospital, police said.

The incident occurred around 11.19pm when a man in his 70s was suspected of falling into the sea. A passer-by and a firefighter from the Kwun Tong fire station spotted him. The off-duty firefighter jumped into the water to help, while someone threw a lifebuoy and called police.

Marine police and firefighters arrived and pulled the man from the water. He was taken by police launch to Kwun Tong Public Pier and then sent conscious to hospital by ambulance. The off-duty firefighter later also felt unwell and was taken to hospital for examination. Police are investigating the incident.
