Fan short circuit sparks fire at Kwun Tong estate, woman injured

A fan short circuit caused a fire at a flat in Tsui Ping North Estate in Kwun Tong early on Tuesday, leaving a 48-year-old woman with burns to her hand, police said.

The fire broke out at a unit in Tsui Tsz House around 5am. The woman, surnamed Yim, attempted to put out the blaze but failed, injuring her hand. Her 47-year-old sister called for help.

Firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by a fan short circuit, with further inquiries ongoing.

The injured woman was taken conscious to United Christian Hospital. More than 40 residents evacuated on their own.
